This Short Film Proves You Should Always Follow Your Heart | ‘In a Heartbeat’ is just as cute as it is inspiring

Told in only four minutes, this modern day love story about two middle schoolers is just as captivating as many of the great epic love movies, and is hands down the cutest romance we’ve seen in a while.

‘In a Heartbeat’ follows “a closeted boy who runs the risk of being outed by his own heart after it pops out of his chest to chase down the boy of his dreams.” Sherwin is a redhead who has a crush on Jonathan, described as “the most popular boy in school.” Sherwin is afraid to show his emotions, but eventually his heart does the job for him and attempts to show Jonathan how he really feels. Due to the pressure of other students in the school there is a moment when it seems as though Sherwin’s heart will be broken but it’s then up to Jonathan to show Sherwin how he really feels.

What makes ‘In a Heartbeat’ so special is its simplicity. While it carries an important message of LGBT acceptance and embraces following your heart no matter what, it does so in an understated way that can resonate with everyone, especially those who only have a few minutes to spare. Sherwin’s heart becomes the main character and in an adorable way provides comic relief while also hammering home the main theme of the film, which is that love and acceptance always prevail.

Filmmakers, Beth David, 22, and Esteban Bravo, 24, made the short film for their senior thesis while at America's Ringling College of Art and Design, where they recently graduated. Over 18 months in the making, they were helped along with a Kickstarter campaign to ensure that this alluring story could be shown to the world.

The stunning short has captivated the Internet and within a few days of being released has already been viewed millions of times and has received plenty of positive reviews by viewers and critics.
