Cleaning – for some people it’s a dreaded chore and for others it’s an activity to be enjoyed. Whichever camp you fall into, you are most likely aided by cleaning supplies to get the job done. But did you know that a large majority of cleaning products contain an array of toxins that can prove to be harmful to your health and the environment? For a cheaper and safer alternative to standard cleaning supplies, roll up your sleeves and try out these homemade DIY cleaning products that will make every corner of your home shine.

1. BATHROOM

This is a section of the house that requires regular cleaning and looks best when sparkling.  
DIY SOLUTION: Tub and Tile Cleaner
HOW:
1 2/3 cup baking soda
1/2 cup vegetable oil-based liquid soap
1/2 cup water and 2 tablespoons vinegar
In a jar or spray bottle, combine the baking soda with vegetable oil-based liquid soap.
Add the water and vinegar. Shake before using. Apply with a cloth or sponge and rinse well.

2. KITCHEN

Your refrigerator is a receptacle for all that you consume and is probably one of the most often used household appliances. Though often neglected, make sure to get rid of any smelly or expired foods and give your fridge a scrub down.  
DIY SOLUTION: Fridge Cleaner
HOW:
2 cups hot water
1 cup white vinegar
10 drops of your favorite essential oil like peppermint, lemon or tea tree
Combine the ingredients in a bucket or spray bottle. Use the mixture and a cloth to scrub the inside of your fridge.

3. BEDROOM Your bedroom should be one of the most comfortable places because it’s where you spend your nights snoozing away. To ensure a fresh and inviting atmosphere, make your own air freshener. DIY SOLUTION: Spray Air Freshener HOW: 1/2 cup water 1/2 cup rubbing alcohol 15-25 drops of essential oil of your choice (depending on how strong you want the scent) Combine all three ingredients into a spray bottle and give the mixture a shake before spraying. 4. LIVING ROOM

The living room serves as a public space and is often used for entertaining guests or hanging out with family. Dust has a tendency to build up so whether you use your salon regularly, or once in a blue moon, try out this dust remover.
DIY SOLUTION: Dusting Spray
HOW:
1 tablespoon of natural dish soap
15 drops lemon essential oil
2 cups water
Pour ingredients into a spray bottle and shake gently to combine. Either spray onto surface and wipe clean with a cloth, or spray it directly on the cloth and then wipe down the surface.

5. WINDOWS AND MIRRORS

Cleaning glass surfaces is a quick way to make your home bright and shiny.
DIY SOLUTION: Glass Cleaner
HOW:
2 cups water
1/2 cup white or cider vinegar
1/4 cup rubbing alcohol (70% concentration)
1 to 2 drops of orange essential oil, which gives the solution a lovely smell (optional)
Combine ingredients and store in a spray bottle. Spray on a paper towel or soft cloth
first, then on the glass.
