No matter where you are from, or how old you are, Elvis Presley's songs are instantly recognizable across the globe. Known as "the King of Rock and Roll," the easy to relate to words and infectious melodies of his timeless hits have touched millions and continue to influence musicians to this day. Here are 7 of Elvis's greatest lyrics on love, life and laughter.

1. "When I first saw you with your smile so tender, my heart was captured, my soul surrendered."

This line is taken from one of the best-selling singles of all time, "It's Now or Never" and is a great example of Elvis at his romantic best. The song apparently had such a strong impact on a young Barry White that it inspired him to pursue a career in music.

2. "Live each day, as if it we're your last. It's written in the stars, your destiny is cast."

Recorded for the movie "Harum Scarum," the song "Wisdom Of The Ages" is less well known than some of Elvis's other hits but it is full of feel good advice about making the most of life.

3. "A little less fight and a little more spark, close your mouth and open your heart."

The song a "A Little Less Conversation" was originally performed by Elvis for the 1968 film Live a Little, Love a Little and was a minor hit. It wasn't until 2002 when the song was remixed by Junkie XL that it became a worldwide success, and lines such as this one were stuck in the heads of people of all ages.

4. "You've got to follow that dream, wherever that dream may lead."

As well as being the King of Rock and Roll, Elvis was also the king of film in his own unique way. This inspirational gem is from the aptly titled musical movie Follow That Dream from 1962.

5. "Love me tender, love me sweet, never let me go. You have made my life complete, and I love you so."

Perhaps one of Elvis's most recognizable songs, "Love Me Tender" is based on the music of the Civil War song "Aura Lee," published in 1861. Elvis first performed the song in 1956 and it became an instant classic with dozens of other artists recording their own versions of the beautiful love song.

6. "Someone said that the world is a stage and we must each play a part. Fate had me playing in love with you as my sweetheart."

A heartfelt love song, "Are You Lonesome Tonight?" was first published in 1927 but was made famous by Elvis in the 1960s, and became such a hit that it ranks 81 on Billboard's Greatest Songs of all time.

7. "And when you smile the world is brighter, you touch my hand and I'm a king. Your kiss to me is worth a fortune, your love for me is everything."

Elvis recorded a version of "The Wonder of You" and released it as a single in 1970, becoming one of his most successful records in the UK ever. With such romantic lyrics, it's easy to see why so many fell in love with this song.
