Denis Estimon came to the United States with his mother when he was just a first grader. Because of the obvious language barrier he spent long hours by himself without anyone to talk to - an experience that stayed with him long into his teenage years.

The now-18-year-old high school senior decided that no student should feel the way that he once felt and with the help of his English teacher at the Florida school that he goes to, he created We Dine Together.

What started with only four students has now grown into a school club of over 80 teenagers who seek out students who sit alone at lunch and join them so they don’t feel isolated.

The feedback from the students has been “tremendous,” Estimon told ABC News. His initiative not only changed how students interact with each other inside the school, but also how they behave at home.

“Kids have been telling me they started to try and eat at home with their parents,” he said. Estimon, is currently applying to colleges to study business and hopes that one day We Dine Together will grow to be represented in every high school around the nation.
