Beauty brands made some noteworthy progress in the field of diversity earlier this year with L'Oréal Paris signing model Maria Borges to its roster. But even as women of color receive broader representation in the fashion and beauty world, there is still a long way to go. As any woman with a slightly darker skin tone can attest, it is notoriously difficult for darker skinned women to find makeup that suits their skin tone.

All of that suddenly changed with the release of Rihanna's Fenty Beauty line in early September 2017. Fenty Beauty makeup is made for all skin colors, all undertones, from all countries, and all ethnicities. Until now women of color were often forced to create their own makeup, hair care, and skin care products because bigger brands just didn't always bother.

Where big brands usually release around 10 different shades of foundation, Fenty Beauty offers an incredible 40 shades of foundation, 30 magnetized concealing, contouring, and highlighting sticks, and a single lip gloss. The shades of all products are spread across multiple skin tones with no one being left out.

"Fenty beauty was created for everyone: for women of all shades, personalities, attitudes, cultures, and races. I wanted everyone to feel included. That's the real reason I made this line," Fenty quotes Rihanna on its website. And nothing could prove the success of Fenty Beauty's product lineup better than the fact that just mere days after its launch, many of the darker colors are already sold out nationwide.

Sometimes it really is the small things that make the biggest difference.
