They say it takes a village to raise a child - but in the hyper-connected reality of modern, urban living, that traditional community community can be difficult to cultivate. Mixed in with all the magic of having children, new parents can often feel overwhelmed and alone - even amid the stream of well-meaning visitors.
Enter Parenthoods - the local community housed in an iPhone app, where parents can really relate to each other, beyond the obligatory smiling photos that fill their Facebook News Feeds. Created by a young mother and one of her best friends, the app provides a platform for parents to talk about real issues, ask for and share advice, and benefit from a strong, supportive community. Along with forum-like threads of common questions and answers, useful content on Parenthoods includes local family activities and shop directories - to make parenting that little bit easier.
Currently only available in San Francisco, the app hopes to expand around the US and then other countries in the near future, to connect parents from around the world.
