The B Team, a global non-profit founded by Sir Richard Branson and Jochen Zeitz, is revealing its starting lineup of business leaders today (June 13). B Team members will collaborate to create a visionary way of doing business that prioritises people and planet alongside profit – an enlightening “Plan B” for businesses the world over.
The leaders joining the B Team - carefully chosen by a global network of advisors for their commitment to better business - include businesswoman and philanthropist Shari Arison, owner of Arison Group, media mogul Arianna Huffington, CEO of Unilever Paul Polman and CEO of the UN Foundation Kathy Calvin. Dr. Gro Harlem Brundtland, Mo Ibrahim, Guilherme Leal, Strive Masiyiwa, François-Henri Pinault, Mary Robinson, Ratan Tata and Professor Muhammad Yunus also take part in B Team.
In a live online broadcast to over 100 gatherings in 71 cities worldwide, The B Team Leaders will issue a joint Declaration, acknowledging key global problems such as growing inequality, unemployment and the unsustainable use of natural resources.
"Today we want to start a global conversation on a 'Plan B' for business,” said Sir Branson.
“We are working with government agencies, the social sector and
business leaders to help get on top of some of the world’s seemingly intractable challenges. We are keen to listen, learn and share with others to build businesses that do what’s right for people and the planet.”
For Arison, the combination of philanthropy and business is far from a new notion; the philanthropist doesn't separate investing in ventures from doing good - rather, she believes a mix of the two equals success. “Joining B Team -a collaboration of leading businesspeople - is another step toward positive change in the world,” says Arison. “Business and philanthropy is the platform for doing good - for turning this place into a better world to live in. If we all start to think good, speak good and do good - our world will be different.”
The B Team Kick Off will be broadcast at 9.30 AM BST / 10.30 AM CET.
