Brandon Smith is the Founder of Cause Date

Cause Date’s event calendar is unlike any that of any other dating site. That’s because Cause Date is unlike any other dating site. Yes, they have the typical cocktail parties, hikes and concerts, but there’s a twist – all of Cause Date’s events are centered around positive social change. Take, for example, the upcoming “Social Impact Cocktail Party,” or the organization’s recent volunteer activity for the 2015 Special Olympics. Based in Los Angeles, Cause Date is an online dating site for connecting like-minded people in Los Angeles who share a passion for sustainable living and positive change. Through cause-based events, volunteer activities and eco-social activities, Cause Daters can ‘Connect, Love and Impact’.

In this week’s 10 Good Questions, Cause Date founder Brandon Smith speaks with Goodnet about what make this dating service different from the rest.

1. What is your organization’s mission?

Providing opportunities for people to connect, love, and create social and environmental impact.

2. What makes you guys different from the rest?

Cause Date offers an event series, Sustainable Living Presents, designed to bring people together to discuss topics related to causes of their interest in eco-social conscious settings. Our series is developed as an engaging interactive experience curated to foster mixing and mingling between like-minded members of our community. We also connect Cause Daters interested in meeting for the first time to volunteer opportunities in their community.

3. Offices or open work spaces?

We work in open work spaces out of Rhubarb Studios in Downtown Los Angeles. Open spaces make it easier for us to innovate and create new concepts and activities for our members. Majority of the time we all work remotely.

4. What three words describe your organization?

Friendly, Adventurous, and Creative.

5. What inspires you?

I’m inspired by millions of Americans who volunteer and support causes every year. It’s people who come together to improve and build community who inspired me to develop unique social experiences that help foster increased volunteerism, philanthropic support and meaningful connections.

6. What is the best part about your job?

Creating positive impact in the lives of others while bringing people together to exchange ideas, thoughts and passions.

7. Does your team eat lunch together?

Most of the time we work remotely from different parts of the city, so lunch doesn’t quite work for our team.

8. Facebook or Twitter?

I prefer Facebook for social engagement and Twitter for event promotion.

9. What do you want Goodnet users to know about your organization?

Cause Date is designed to be the world’s first Benefit Corporation dating company. Our model focuses on promoting sustainability practices in everyday life. We work hard to score high on our BCorp assessment by Blab so that our operations are transparent and as socially and environmentally conscious as possible.

10. How can people get involved?

The best way to get involved is to sign up for our Sustainable Living Presents newsletter and share Cause Date with friends and family. If you live in Southern California you can join our meetup and meet other like-minded friends who share a passion for creating positive change.
