Uplifting communities
Good Deeds Day is a peak event of year-round doing good activities that was initiated by businesswoman and philanthropist Shari Arison in 2007. On this special day, millions of people from 115 countries across the globe participate in doing good. Collaborating with Good Deeds Day,the Do-Nation Foundation is committed to uplifting local communities and fostering a culture of giving. Through their various initiatives and programs, they aim to address social issues, empower individuals, and create lasting change. Their work is  guided by the belief that every act of kindness, no matter how small, has the power to make a difference.

Diane Felicien Founder and CEO of Do-Nation Foundation and Good Deeds Day Leader for Saint Lucia, told Goodnet how efforts in St. Lucia got their start,“I attended the first International Conference of Good Deeds Day in Germany 2018, my involvement  started by being inspired by the ideas, concepts, and initiatives discussed during the conference. I became very motivated to take action and make a positive difference in my country. Upon returning to Saint Lucia I reached out t o organizations to share what I learnt and the impact this movement can have by getting involved.”

In October 2023, the first-ever Good Deeds Day Pageant was held in Saint Lucia. Participants took part in a special sashing ceremony, which placed a great focus on social responsibility and giving back to the community. The Do-Nation Foundation produced the pageant, which sought to bring together talent, beauty, and a strong desire to improve society. Participants from a wide range of backgrounds, experiences, and ages gathered to demonstrate not only their outward beauty but also their inner fortitude and commitment to charitable work. The sashing ceremony presented each participant to the public and gave them a special sash that represented their sponsoring organizations.

“We focused on the theme of "It takes a village to raise a child," the event raised awareness about the collective responsibility society has towards children, who require the support and involvement of the entire community. The event empowered young ladies to make a difference in their community and inspired people to recognize their ability to have a positive impact and motivated them to take action,” Felicien expressed, adding, “Hosting the first Ms. Good Deeds Day had a profound impact on community engagement, volunteerism, awareness, empowerment, inspiration, and social cohesion.”

The Do-Nation Foundation focuses on addressing social issues such as environmental awareness, poverty and education. Through educational workshops, mentorship programs, and community outreach initiatives, they aim to empower individuals and provide them with the tools they need to thrive. By investing in the next generation, they hope to create a brighter future for all Saint Lucians. The Do-Nation Foundation works collaboratively with the following local organizations: DBS, Island Adventures, Saint Lucia Hospitality Credit Union, EVO Lucian Car Rentals, Extra Chelo Beauty, SOL EC Service, T & D Marketing and Party Fever 758.

As they continue their efforts, the Do-Nation Foundation is making a tangible difference in the lives of Saint Lucians. Their work serves as a testament to the power of kindness and compassion to transform communities and create a better world for all. In Saint Lucia, where the beauty of the island is matched only by the warmth of its people, these organizations are shining examples of what can be achieved when we come together in service of others.
