The Invisible Bike Helmet that Keeps You Safe | Yes, it exists [VIDEO]

“I have to sit down.” Those were the words uttered by Anna Haupt and Terese Alstin’s professor when he first heard about their idea to create an invisible bike helmet.

Seven years ago, the two design students embarked on a nearly impossible task – create a functional and safe bike helmet that no one can see.

The idea came about after a mandatory helmet law for children up to 15 years old was passed in Sweden, and the debate opened to extending the law to adults.  Though there are bike helmets made out of untraditional materials, both Haupt and Alstin wanted to create an alternative shape and design to the standard helmet that anyone would be happy wearing.

After years of research and development, the innovative duo created Hövding – a collar worn around the neck that contains an airbag helmet which inflates only if there is an accident. The first invisible bike helmet is available in select stores in Europe, but there is no doubt that we will be “seeing" more of Hövding in the near future.
