Helping Overcome Obstacles Peru (HOOP)

http://www.hoopperu.org

Helping Overcome Obstacles Peru (HOOP) is a registered Non-Governmental Organisation located in Arequipa, Peru. HOOP is not affiliated to any religious or political ideals. We work with the impoverished people in the Flora Tristan community. Flora Tristan is a shanty town located on the outskirts of Arequipa composed of haphazardly constructed shacks with a lack of basic services, such as electricity or running water.
Our current priorities are developing the Flora Tristan community by using strategic educational programs through which community members of all ages can advance their education, health, self-confidence and better their quality of life. To that end our international and Peruvian volunteers run English classes, homework help, health & nutrition workshops, medical assessments and treatments, as well as finance and business classes.

Walkonomics

http://www.walkonomics.com

Walkonomics aims to rate the pedestrian-friendliness of every street in the world.  By enabling ordinary people and local communities to add a rating of any street, it is hoped that a realistic walkability score will be created for each street.  Where available, public datasets are also used to add ratings and provide more quantitative reviews.  By harnessing the power of 'crowd-sourcing', social media and open data, Walkonomics aims to become a self-organising system where users correct any inaccuracies or errors in street reviews.
In addition to this, Walkonomics also provides an interactive online space, where local people, government and business can suggest, discuss and create walkability improvements for our streets, neighbourhoods and cities.
