With winter here, life is about being cozy and warm. Come meal time, cravings are for hot, filling dishes and your best companion for this is a crockpot. Also known as a slow cooker, this incredible appliance creates easy, piping hot meals while you are away.

Yet a crockpot can also cook up your favorite healthy breakfast while you are asleep! Here are five delicious, satisfying hot breakfasts made in your slow cooker. When that appetizing scent wafts into your bedroom, you may just leap out of bed!

Crockpot eggs

A quiche in a pot? Yes! This recipe from Clean Food Crush is perfect to serve for brunch. It has peppers, green onions, mustard, chili powder, and a dozen eggs. Try adding your favorite quiche vegetables such as mushrooms, tomatoes, broccoli, and zucchini. Or add in any leftover veggies you have on hand.

You can prepare this without meat for a delicious vegetarian dish. If you use Italian sausage, brown the meat first, then add it to the mixture. Cook on low for three to four hours until eggs are fluffy, then serve.

Southwest crockpot breakfast

Here is a spicy, Tex Mex twist on the traditional egg casserole above. From The Spruce Eats, this slow cooker breakfast is made with peppers, green chilies, chili powder, and cayenne to give it a rich warm flavor on a cold winter morning. The Spruce Eats suggests cooking it for seven hours if you have an older cooker, or five for a newer, hotter crockpot.

Slow cooker granola

Home-made granola is an ultimate breakfast choice as it is healthy, filling, and comforting. Mr. Food makes it easy. Simply add old-fashioned oats with a whole grain cereal, egg whites, honey, sliced almonds, and cranberries. Cook on high for two hours with the lid slightly ajar. Make sure to stir every half hour.

Mal’s Maple Date Pecan Granola from allrecipes offers a healthy and delicious version, combining apple sauce, maple syrup cinnamon, hemp hearts, chia seeds, dates, pecans, and rolled oats.

Easy crockpot banana bread

There’s nothing more indulgent than waking up to fresh, homemade banana bread. This recipe from Ridge’s Stitches is vegan and can be made gluten free depending on the oats you use.

Simply add steel cut oats, almond milk, water, mashed bananas, chia and hemp seeds, plus cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and vanilla. Cook on low for seven to eight hours, and when you wake up, this hot, nutritious breakfast is ready to be served. As it will be moister than a traditional bread, serve it in a bowl topped with healthy cacao nibs, almonds, and banana slices.

Slow cooker apple oatmeal

No winter breakfast menu would be complete without oatmeal. This recipe by Savory Nothings is akin to an apple crumble prepared in a slow cooker!

Mix cinnamon, brown sugar, and nutmeg with sliced apples and cranberries. Dot with butter and place in the slow cooker. Then pour a mixture of apple juice, water, old-fashioned oats, and salt over the mixture. Place the crock-pot on low for six to eight hours, then serve.

A word of advice from Savory Nothings, “No stirring, no peeking!” This breakfast will be worth the anticipation.
