While there's nothing quite like the magic of watching a meteor shower from the perfect vantage point, this beautiful time-lapse comes in at a very close second. Shot in California's Joshua Tree National Park over three consecutive nights, the clip captures the Perseid Meteor Shower, visible in the northern hemisphere every year between July and August.
For bonus points, see if you can work out which flashes of light are meteors and which ones are passing planes.
