If you have a feline family member or just love cats, you are far from alone. In fact, over 25 percent of US households have pet cats, according to the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). That amounts to over 58 million of these meowing fur babies.

It’s only natural that cat lovers enjoy reading books about cats and watching movies that feature cats, according to The Dodo. Here are some classic cat flicks along with some lesser-known movies that are family-friendly and can be enjoyed by cat lovers of all ages. So pop some popcorn, and enjoy!

The Aristocrats

This delightful 1970 animated Disney film tells the tale of Duchess and her unlikely rescuer. When Duchess and her kittens are kidnapped and taken to the French countryside, alley cat O’Malley puts together a team of street cats to rescue the feline family.

The Adventures of Milo and Otis

This adorable 1986 Japanese adventure film is about the adventures of Milo, a tabby cat and Otis, a cuddly pug. The animals are constantly getting into trouble together. When Milo hides in a box floating in the river, it begins to drift downstream and Otis takes off after it in a wild adventure until the friends are ultimately reunited.

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish

In this 2022 computer animated film, Puss in Boots – first introduced in Shrek 2 –discovers that his adventures have used up eight of his nine lives. He then sets out on the ultimate journey to discover the mythical last wish and restore all of his lives.

Harry and Tonto

This 1974 road trip movie features Art Carney Harry, a retired teacher and widower, and his pet cat Tonto. Harry is about to be evicted from his New York City home because his building is going to be torn down. He sets out on a cross-country trip with Tonto to visit his grown children and reunites with a former love.

Oliver & Company

This 1988 Disney animated musical adventure features Oliver, a kitten who is lost in New York City, according to IMDb. He joins up with a gang of shady canine con artists. When offered a chance to live in a comfortable home, Oliver has to make a difficult choice.

Kedi

This 2017 documentary profiles some of the thousands of cats that roam the streets of Istanbul, Turkey, according to The Conversation. Kedi, means cat in Turkish. Hundreds of thousands of cats rove the city and become an integral part of communities and bring joy to the people they choose to form bonds with.

Kiki’s Delivery Service

In this classic 1989 Studio Ghibli animated movie, Kiki – a 13-year-old witch in training– and her black cat moves to a new city and she befriends a baker who helps her start her own delivery business. While Kiki is the star, it is still a must-see for cat lovers.
