Cozymaxxing is a new self-care trend that embraces the simple pleasures of being cozy. Considered a wellness practice, it may deliver remarkable benefits for your mental and physical health – and it requires nothing more than creating a warm, comfortable environment for relaxation!

Popular on TikTok and other social media platforms, cozymaxxing posts show people wrapped in blankets, lighting candles, or watching their favorite shows according to Healthline. Join the trend; kick off your shoes and give this viral trend a try today.

Psychotherapist Ken Fierheller told Healthline that cozymaxxing is defined as: “intentionally curating your home and habits to prioritize relaxation and coziness.” He explained that the world is filled with many stressors that cause burn out. In order to feel safe and to destress, people need new ideas to create what he calls “little pockets of peace.”

Although being busy and embracing a culture of hustle and bustle was once admired, people are now opting for balance in their lives. And with so much instability in the world, many simply want to retreat into their own safe, comfortable spaces.

The Remarkable Health Benefits of Getting Cozy
Mental health professionals also appreciate this trend, concluding that cozymaxxing offers genuine psychological benefits. Psychologist Ritika Suk Birah said, “a cozy, predictable environment signals safety to the brain, reducing cortisol (the stress hormone) and promoting relaxation. This, in turn, can lead to a reduction in stress and anxiety.”

Birah explained that consciously relaxing may increase emotional regulation by giving you time to reflect on emotions and manage them more effectively. She suggests doing comforting activities like sipping tea or journaling to support the parasympathetic system. This part of the nervous system handles the body's rest and digest functions and works opposite the fight or flight stress response.

By maximizing your coziness, you may also lower cortisol, sleep better, and enjoy an enhanced mood, according to British Vogue. The foundation of cozymaxxing is silence, another important element that improves wellbeing.

Key Elements of Cozymaxxing
In addition to creating peace, use a scent such as ylang ylang to reduce stress and soothe an overactive nervous system. Lavender also reduces anxiety, while cedarwood promotes calmness. Create serenity by going for dim lighting. Lower any harsh overhead lights and opt for lamps. Try to surround yourself with soft textures like brushed cotton bed sheets and comfortable pajamas and aim to be in this space twice a week.

When in a place of warmth and safety, feel-good hormones are released, according to Good Housekeeping. This includes dopamine and serotonin, as well as endorphins that make you sleep better and feel more uplifted.

Cozymaxxing Works Best With Intention
Intention and balance are key when it comes to cozymaxxing, explains Healthline. Some people may feel indulgent while cozymaxxing, but if they are doing it with the right mindset, it is a positive practice.

People should have an awareness of whether they are doing this in excess, avoiding responsibilities and exercise, or withdrawing too much. Birah advises asking yourself, “Am I resting to recharge, or am I avoiding something difficult?” She suggests setting a time limit for these cozy rituals.  Other tips are to put away your laptop and smartphone and declutter your space. These help you destress, unwind, and find emotional balance.

Cozymaxxing requires little effort, or investment yet can offer significant positive change. In addition to exercising and connecting with others, make time during your week to practice this popular trend. Be it relaxing in a steaming bath, snuggling up with your pet, or curling under the covers with a good book, join the relaxed TikTok crowd and chill!
