Color is something that can help influence your mood. Some are cool and help jazz things up and some are warm and soothing. A soft and calming pink and orange hue named Peach Fuzz has been selected as the 2024 color of the year.

Officially known as PANTONE 13-1023 Peach Fuzz, the color company called the shade, “velvety gentle” when it announced the color of the year on December 7, 2023, in an official statement. The choice, “echoes our innate yearning for closeness and connection,” Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute said in the statement.

“We chose a color radiant with warmth and modern elegance. A shade that resonates with compassion, offers a tactile embrace and effortlessly bridges the youthful with the timeless,” she said.

The color is expected to show up in a myriad of places, in wallpaper, carpets, pillows as well as textiles, reported Smithsonian Magazine. It is already appearing in fashion with celebrities like Taylor Swift already wearing Peach Fuzz to social events.

Pantone colors
When you are looking for the right shade to paint your living room, the go to place is the Pantone Matching System, a tool that began in 1963 and uses a numbering system and chips to identify colors, according to USA Today.

The matching system is used by all color industries, including beauty products, interior design, as well as the textile and printing industries.

Pantone is much more than just its color selector. The company also runs the Pantone Color Institute, founded in 1985,  which forecasts color trends, advises companies about color and brand development, and selects  the Color of the Year.

Color of the Year
The annual Color of The Year selections first began in 1999 and is now celebrating its 25 th year with Peach Fuzz. There is a lot of science that goes into picking the color, explained Smithsonian Magazine.

A team of color experts examine fashion, art, movies, and technologies to see which colors are influencing the world at the time. They also use forecasting tools and research to predict trends and then they narrow down the options to choose the color.

“The emotional aspect of color is also a large aspect of our decision making. We want to ensure that the colors we select reflect what is taking place in our global culture at a specific moment in time, “ Pressman said in an interview on the company’s website. “With color and context so intertwined, there really are reasons why a color family or individual color comes into prominence when it does.”

The 2023 Color of the year was a bright pink-red shade called Viva Magenta that evoked the celebration of coming out of the pandemic and a return to life.

But this year’s color arrives at a time when the world is being turned upside down by war and despair. Even the name, Peach Fuzz, evokes warmth. Let the healing begin.
