There are 42 million independent or freelance workers in the United States alone - one in three Americans.  Freelancers are a diverse group with occupations ranging from lawyers and artists to photographers and doctors.  But in an unprecedented move to unite independent workers, the Freelancers Union was established as a national organization that provides its members benefits that they might not usually receive, such as: health and disability insurance and even a retirement 401k plan. Additionally the movement hosts educational seminars, networking events and offers discounts on goods and services. The Freelancers Union is free to join and already boasts 200,000 members and growing.
Founded by Sara Horowitz , this innovative platform advocates on behalf of American freelancers who before now, have never had access to organized representation. The Freelancers Union gives this heterogeneous group a voice to ensure that they receive fair treatment. [Source: Freelancers Union]
