The heartwarming “It’s Very Important” trend is sweet and simple. Fill out a prompt on a screen that begins with: “In your 20s, there will be a [blank]. It is very important that you [blank].” The text is accompanied with audio that is a mashup of two nostalgic songs: Billy Joel’s “Piano Man,” and “Silver Springs” by Fleetwood Mac. The appeal of the viral trend is the big impact of small decisions. It all began when @media.alacarte shared a TikTok video of a template with examples including “In your 20s, there will be a plane. It is very important that you get on that plane,” or “In your 20s, a friend will invite you for coffee. It is very important that you go get the coffee.”

The social media trend has inspired people to post their own personal stories, according to indy100. In a TikTok video, Hannah Lowther, a musical theatre performer, wrote, “In your 20s, people will say that your videos are cringey and you'll never make it... it's very important that you ignore them!” The post shows her working at Tesco and then following her dreams and becoming a performer on the West End and touring the UK.

British TV presenters Ant and Dec shared a TikTok video featuring a compilation of clips of them presenting the reality TV series “I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here!.” The text reads “In your 20s you'll be asked to host a show where you torment celebs. It's very important that you say yes... Because you'll still be doing it 25 years later.”

Whether it's through funny, joyful, or inspiring moments, the trend shows that it’s very important to take risks, say yes, and follow your desires — you never know where it might lead you.
