The World’s First Self-Flying Taxi Has Lifted off in Dubai

Earlier this year, the head of Dubai’s transportation agency announced that self-flying taxis wouldbegin servicing the city by July. Despite Dubai’s reputation for mind-blowing projects, much of the world found it hard to believe that we are not only entering a time with flying taxis, but taxis that would fly themselves.

Much to the surprise of many, the emirate is actually still on track to make that futuristic dream a reality, even if there’s going to be a small delay.

On September 25, 2017, Dubai announced it had successfully conducted a test flight of the Autonomous Air Taxi.

The AAT, designed and built by German company Volocopter, looks much like a regular helicopter, but with 18 propellers instead of one.

It can carry two passengers and currently has a flight time of about 30 minutes – enough to shuttle passengers from place to place in most major cities.

Believe it or not, we are witnesses to the beginning ofa new era of flying drone taxis. The future truly is now.
