Introducing Essence of Life
What is the essence of life? What is your place in the world? How can you be inspired to be the best you can be? These are questions you may be asking yourself.
These are the questions that Essence of Life (EOL), an online magazine and internet radio station strives to help you answer. In a world filled with divisiveness and strife, everyone needs help to find meaning in their life and inner strength within themselves.
In the Beginning
As part of the Arison group, founded by businesswoman and philanthropist Shari Arison, Essence of Life magazine was established in 2014. EOL and Goodnet are sister organizations.
The mission is to be an information source to give people the tools they need for inner peace and self-development according to an interview with Boaz Mizrahi, editor and chief of the EOL magazine.
After Covid-19, resilience was added to the mission to help people recover and heal.
“The events of October 7 focused that dimension furthermore, whence the magazine took upon itself to bring the audience content specifically designed to strengthen emotional stability and social bonds,” Mizrahi told Goodnet.
When first launched, EOL magazine used to serve more as a conduit to stand-alone ideas, the articles were short and light. But, as Mizrahi told Goodnet, the readers wanted more information and more depth. So, the magazine morphed and now a team of writers create complex stories using multiple sources and synthesize them to generate articles with the unique character of EOL.
While the magazine’s articles are in Hebrew, Goodnet will be publishing EOL articles in English every month.
About the Content
The articles explore all facets of the human experience and shed light on human life and the human condition by offering practical and mental tools for EOL’s mission.
While many people tend to think about meditation and breathing techniques to achieve these goals, EOL’s approach is broader while still exploring spirituality. Mizrahi said; “We believe one can learn how to deal with life’s largest and smallest challenges from literally everything.”
This includes looking at natural phenomenon that do not appear at first to have anything to do with your mental state. Or looking at science or math to glean information about yourself and the world you live in.
One article examined how mathematic principles can serve as metaphors for social behavior. Other articles looked at why people were drawn to certain shapes and how universal laws shape people and why they should accept it.
In addition, many articles include personal life stories, art, culture, history; anything that is reliable, interesting, and relevant. The variety gives a broader perspective to view yourself and your connection with others.
Mizrahi summed it up: “A story we publish can be a deep philosophical dive, or it can be a scratch-the-surface easy-to-process analogy, sometimes we just give our readers some quotes to ponder. Having said that, we will always embed our values – positivity, novelty, and honesty – while trying to give our readers a new insight and mental stimulation.”
