During Good Deeds Day (GDD), an annual tradition of doing good, millions of people from all over the world volunteer to uplift communities. One country participating in the global day and demonstrating the ripple effect of small actions is Nigeria.
Since joining Good Deeds Day in 2018, Nigeria has been on a mission to be an agent of positive change. The initiative involves over 6,000 volunteers and more than 120 partner organizations, with activities taking place across multiple states. Through acts of service, participants aim to make a positive difference both locally and nationally.
The Ripple Effect of Kindness
In Nigeria, Good Deeds Day initiatives have touched a wide variety of people and institutions, including elderly and orphanage homes, schools, hospitals, and underserved communities. Through initiatives like “Kindness in the Streets,” children identified their neighbors’ needs and were empowered to give back with resources from their school farm.
School outreach programs have also made a positive impact through leadership training for youth and distributed learning materials for students, motivating younger generations to succeed. These actions show that when everyday people give back through acts of kindness, it can spark meaningful change in people’s lives. Whether it’s sharing resources or a visit that inspires youth, every action creates a ripple effect of kindness.

Looking Ahead Toward Good Deeds Day 2026
For Good Deeds Day 2026, Nigeria aims to create a long-term effect through its activities. Among them is the launch of university-based Good Deeds Day Club, an empowering initiative that encourages students to reach out and lend a helping hand to communities. Activities like these send an encouraging message to youth that they have the potential to shape the kind of future they want to live in.
Another major initiative this year is a volunteer conference that showcases progress over the years, brings together volunteers, and inspires greater participation.
“Big change is just many small actions done by ordinary people,” says Adetola Olugbenga Bamidele, the lead person from the Nigeria Good Deeds Day Initiative. “Every act of compassion restores hope, dignity, and our shared humanity,” he adds.
Nigeria’s Good Deeds Day efforts show the power of people coming together and spreading kindness. Small actions can touch everyday lives and create meaningful and lasting positive change in the future.
