World Celebrates as Israeli Hostages Return Home
As hostages reunite with loved ones, the world rejoices in hope.
After spending more than two years in Hamas captivity, Israeli hostages are finally home. Israelis, Jews, and supporters of Israel gathered around the world to witness the powerful moment, sharing tears and celebration. It was a reminder that hope, unity, and healing know no borders.
People across the world gathered to watch the live broadcast of the release of Israeli hostages in cities spanning New York, Paris, and Berlin, Ynet reports. The long-awaited moment was marked with prayers, songs, and tears of relief as hearts united across continents. In major cities in the US, including Miami and Los Angeles, festivities were held, with Israeli and American flags waving, as many celebrated the hostages finally coming back home.
Israelis Gather for a Long-Awaited Moment
In Israel, the center of the historic event, tens of thousands of Israelis flooded Tel Aviv’s Hostages Square to watch a live feed of the release of the hostages, according to The Times of Israel. The square, once the site of protests and rallies demanding the hostages’ release, transformed into a place where revelers cheered and embraced one another.

Families of the captives gathered and tearfully watched the scenes and hugged each other in relief and joy as their loved ones appeared on screen and returned to Israel. The day was also filled with solidarity as many lined roads in southern Israel, where the released hostages arrived, cheering on the families that came to be reunited with their loved ones and greeting the freed hostages.
Emotional Reunions as Hostages Return
As former hostages met with their family members for the first time in over two years, the reunions were nothing short of emotional, according to the BBC. Matan Zangauker, 25, finally saw his mother, Einav. He walked grinning into her arms. “You’re my life” she tells him, as she hugs him tightly in footage filmed by the Israeli military. “My life. My hero. Come, come,” she adds.
Zangauker is one of 20 living hostages to return after Hamas’ attack on Israel during October 7, 2023. Omri Miran, a father of two who was kidnapped from Kibbutz Nahal Oz, was reunited with his two- and four-year-old daughters and played with them following his release, The Times of Israel reports.
Avinatan Or was captured during the Nova music festival along with his girlfriend, Noa Argamani, who was freed in an Israel Defense Forces rescue operation in June 2024. A scene of the pair being kidnapped became one of the most well-known videos from the Hamas-led massacre. After Or’s release, a video shows the couple embracing. “Each of us faced death countless times, and yet, after two years apart, we are finally taking our first steps together again in the State of Israel,” Argamani wrote on X.
“At last, we can begin our healing together. The recovery will be long; we still haven’t truly processed what has happened here over these past two years. But we won,” she added.
Alon Ohel, who was kidnapped from the Nova festival, reunited with his family. His mother described his condition in positive terms in a Facebook post alongside a photo of the two smiling together in a hospital. “Alon is smiling. Funny. Beautiful. Pure,” she wrote. “One chapter has ended and another new, complicated, but hopeful one has begun.”
David and Ariel Cunio are brothers who were kidnapped from Kibbutz Nir Oz. David was taken hostage along with his wife Sharon and two young twin daughters, Emma and Yuli, who were freed in November 2023. Ariel was captured from the home he shared with girlfriend Arbel Yehoud, who was also kidnapped and freed in January. The pair appeared to be doing well and surprised family members by jumping out from behind a wall.

Israeli families continue to await the return of deceased hostages, according to Ynet. “The government and the entire POW and MIA directorate of the State of Israel are determined, committed, and working tirelessly to bring all our hostage casualties back for proper burial in their homeland,” a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office read. In the face of hardship, the return of these hostages marks a powerful step toward healing for families, for Israel, and the world.
