What’s your favorite corner of your living space? Beyond beautiful furniture and décor, thoughtful touches can transform an everyday living space into a personal sanctuary. Simple choices can create a place to reflect, engage the senses, and reconnect with yourself.
By decorating with intention, you can bring a sense of enchantment into your home, according to Real Simple. Read ahead for ideas to fill your house or apartment with more meaning, positive energy, and a little everyday magic. Your perfect dwelling may be a few decorations away!
Create a Space for Reflection
You can cultivate the power of rituals by setting aside dedicated spaces for reflection. One way to do this is to create altars in your home. Dave Ranney, owner of Ghost, a gift shop in Athens, Georgia, and his partner Robby Bailey keep altars throughout their home and store.
“One is an abundance altar where we place found change and beautiful shiny objects onto a mirror to reflect abundance back into the world,” Ranney tells Real Simple.
“We keep this one in our dining room, a room we pass through every day. It is a reminder to always be open to finding wealth in even the tiniest things like a dime found in the parking lot or a little piece of quartz found while walking the dog,” he adds.

Honor the People Who Came Before You
You can create comfort in your own home by creating a space that reminds you of loved ones you miss. Gentle ways to do this include lighting a candle and putting out a picture.
“You don’t have to believe anything in particular for this to help,” says Allison Carmany, a spiritual guide, astrologist and psychic medium. “It’s just a sweet idea to sit with where you came from and feel a little less lonely, no matter what you’re going through,” she adds.

Surround Yourself With Meaningful Objects
Try decorating your home with purposeful objects such as crystals, Apartment Therapy recommends. You can place amethyst on your bedside table for comfort and better rest, pyrite in your workspace for manifestation, and other crystals elsewhere with intention.
“Rose quartz is all about self-love, so it’s great for when you’re getting ready in the morning,” Erica Feldmann, the owner of HausWitch Home + Healing, a mystical boutique, tells Apartment Therapy. She adds that the best crystal is the one that resonates with you.

Awaken the Senses
Light and smell can create a special experience in your home. Using multiple lighting sources, you can set the mood and connect with your intentions.
You can also build a sensory experience through smells. Light your favorite candle or burn ethically sourced plants such as sage, which Feldmann associates with purification and moving into a new living space.

Bring the Great Outdoors In
Finally, you can create a magical space by placing plants throughout your home, which are believed to do more than just purify the air and make your place aesthetically pleasing.
Tropical varieties, such as rubber plants, are associated with warmth, whereas cacti symbolize setting boundaries. Feldmann suggests ivy or pothos when the intention is growth.
“In the store, we have pothos that hang down from the highest window and they’re literally tendril-ing themselves around the legs of the table at this point,” she says. “That’s a nice sort of symbol for our expansion.”
